The Archives of the Impossible is a serious archive holding the collected papers of Jacques Vallée, John Mack and Whitely Streiber amongst others. This year’s focus on art will temporarily push this into the UFO Conferences category.
Our Fall 2027 conference will take up artistic encounters with the impossible through dialogue and presentations by practicing artists, experiencers and theorists. It proposes that these three are often one, that art may arrive rather than be made — the impossible transduced into form through someone willing to get out of the way and receive it. What is art, then, as an experience rather than an object or performance?
Experiencer does double duty here. One person is confronted by something inexplicable and turns to art to render it. Another practices receiving the ineffable and surrenders the personality self to channel it. The two arrive at the same condition from opposite directions, and the theorist, imbued with the material long enough, cannot help but be altered by it. Each role, traced far enough, becomes the others — which leaves an open question: Has art always been a technology of Contact?
