Aliens and UFOs | YouGov Poll: September 9 – 12, 2022

This 2022 YouGov poll finds that skepticism regarding the existence of aliens had declined since the 1990s, when — according to a 1996 poll by Newsweek — only 20% of Americans believed that Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) were more likely to be proof of alien life than to have a natural scientific explanation (32%). Today, 34% of Americans believe UFOs are likely alien ships or life forms, while only 32% say they’re likely to have a scientific explanation.
Many Americans believe in the supernatural, UFOs

one in ten Americans report that they have seen an unidentified flying object (UFO), unchanged over time. Four times as many Americans (42%) believe in UFOs. When it comes to other unexplainable phenomena, about three in ten (28%) report that, at some point, they have woken up from sleep with a sense of a strange presence in the room, and one in four (25%) have seen or believed themselves to have been in the presence of a ghost. Beyond that experience, two in five (39%) believe in ghosts.
Americans think the government knows more about aliens than shared

Most Americans think the government is holding back information when it comes to aliens, according to a NewsNation/Decision Desk HQ poll released Tuesday.
Over 63% of those surveyed believe the U.S. government has more information about extraterrestrial life than has been shared publicly. Just 17% of respondents don’t think that’s the case.
There was almost no difference across the political spectrum. Most Democrats (62%), independents (65%) and Republicans (64%) think the government has more info. Younger respondents between the ages of 18 to 34 were the most likely to think so (69%).
Nearly half of Americans think govt. is hiding UFO evidence

Close to half of all Americans think that the U.S. government is hiding information about the existence of unidentified flying objects, an exclusive NewsNation/Decision Desk HQ poll found.
Paranormal Phenomena Met With Skepticism in U.S.

Americans are broadly skeptical about each of eight paranormal phenomena tested in a recent Gallup poll. Nearly half of U.S. adults, 48%, believe in psychic or spiritual healing. Slightly fewer, 39%, express a belief in ghosts, while between 24% and 29% say they believe in six other supernatural phenomena, including telepathy, communication with the dead, clairvoyance, astrology, reincarnation and witches.
Half of Americans believe aliens have visited Earth

New YouGov polling finds that most Americans believe aliens exist, and many think that aliens have paid a visit to Earth in recent years. Americans are more likely to believe alien encounters would have a negative effect on human civilization than to think it would have a positive effect, and many believe that aliens would bring new diseases and unintentional harm or outright hostility to people if we were to encounter them.
